Reducing the Waiting List backlog

We are working with our local commissioning groups to reduce the waiting list backlog that developed during the recent pandemic. SSS accept transfers of the longest waiting patients from NHS Trusts in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Somerset whilst also continuing to offer  NHS patients access to new clinic appointments and day case procedures. By providing additional clinics and operating lists at weekends and picking up spare midweek operating lists, we are proud to play our part in NHS recovery.

Somerset Surgical Services (SSS) is an independent provider of NHS care sharing the facilities of Weston General Hospital, Tetbury Hospital and Royal Terrace Dental Practice. High quality care

All of our Surgeons hold or recently held a substantive NHS consultant post and are registered with the General Medical Council. Our clinical team are all specialists in their field of practice and pride themselves on delivering first class patient care.

We aim to provide short waiting times for outpatient appointments and theatre procedures and have regularly maintained excellent RTT (referral-to-treatment) performance against National standards. Advanced surgical procedures and bespoke treatment plans allow streamlined management of care pathways by designated co-ordinators.

A return to health

We know that having a surgical procedure or medical treatment can be a challenging time and that continuity of care is important when attending for hospital appointments. At Somerset Surgical Services your surgeon will be with you from the initial consultation to discharge back to your GP.

Facilities and locations

SSS deliver outpatient services from Weston General Hospital and for some specialties, The Marina Healthcare Centre, Portishead and Langford. Surgery is predominantly undertaken in the theatres within Weston General Hospital; these fully equipped facilities allow us to provide excellent clinical care throughout the treatment pathway. We have full access to the immediate on-site back up of Intensive Care and High Dependency Units provided at Weston General Hospital.

Full range of treatments

SSS works in collaboration with University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) to provide services which complement and enhance those already available. Somerset Surgical Services reinvests income into UHBW making a significant contribution to sustaining local NHS services.
