How it works

Primary Care Commissioners and NHS Hospitals seeking to outsource elective surgical activity can be assured of a definitive patient pathway and one that is managed within the 18 week referral to treatment target. Your patients will be seen in a consultant led service and receive care in an NHS Unit. Patients can be seen from first outpatient appointment or once the patient has been listed for elective surgery. There are also flexible options for patient care to be managed by the in-house primary (consultant level) clinician or by a new local NHS Consultant with the same specialist interest. Pre-operative assessment services and follow up care are an integral part of the pathway.

The SSS administration team will work closely with your waiting list team to organise the flow of patients and to manage the information requirements. The activity remains with the referring organisation; therefore your income stream is unaffected. You are, however, responsible for all the mandatory reporting requirements in line with the NHS Standard Contract.

The activity is delivered within the Payment by Results framework. Therefore the National Tariff applies to outpatient episodes, diagnostics and elective HRG's. The cost to your organisation is transparent and the benefits will be considerable.
